The kitchenprincess and the funnel

22 December 2012

In my mind I am a real kitchenprincess. Wait, what am I saying? A real kitchenqueen you would mean! In my mind I make the most delicious homemade pies, oven dishes and a new delicious recipe everyday. Reality is not so rosy. Yes, I do cook almost everyday (and if you ask me I can cook pretty well neither did my guests ever complain) but a kitchenprincess? I wish! Most days I go for fast, simple, easy and healthy. I do have my moments from time to time. With parties, holidays and other special days I like to spend hours in the kitchen making homemade pie, a delicious meal or something else that is homemade for my guests.

De keukenprinses en haar trechter

A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a recipe for homemade tomato ketchup on the blog Sim Kookt (Sim Cooks). Immediately the kitchenprincess in me said “that’s fun! I am going to make this!”. I checked out the ingredients to see if I needed to buy any kitchenaccessories. That night I was at IKEA with my mom so we bought a bottle for the ketchup. I also needed a funnel, so we made our way to the kitchensection of IKEA. But we couldn’t find one and neither could the employee. No problem, I sure would find one the next day at Blokker. Not. Marskramer maybe? Neither. HEMA? Nope. Action? No. Last hope: Albert Heijn XL. Still no luck.

For weeks I searched for a funnel whenever I was in a store. I kept asking the employees but still no luck. I should be able to find one for a normal price, right? Well no. Bye bye kitchenprincess in me.. To still feel like one I decided to make mango chutney last Sunday. I had a mango that really needed to be eaten and that’s what a rea kitchenprincess does, right? Turning an almost overripe mango into a chutney? So she can save it longer and enjoy a delicious chutney. Because, damn that tastes good!

But that funnel didn’t leave my mind. Because no way I was going to give up on making my own ketchup. And no way I was going to ignore the kitchenprincess, whom only shows from time to time, in me. My mom joked I could also use paper as a fannel but I wanted a real one. A fannel isn’t that old-fashioned, right? And even if it is, I don’t care because the kitchenprincess in me just wants to make ketchup with a fannel and not with some paper used as a fannel.

I was already thinking about going to a construction market or something and look at the car accessories section. Because the oil of a car doesn’t go in it’s reservoir without some help. Last week I had to buy something at HEMA and went to a different one than I normaly go to. I decided to try ito ne more time, before going to a construction market. And there is was. The last set, a big and small fannel, looking at me “Take me! Take me!”.

So next week the moment will be finally there. I get to be a kitchenprincess again and make my own tomato ketchup. Oh, how I can’t wait! And if the recipe turns out well I will of course share it over here.
